Carpe Diem Competition 2006
We have decided to try a
variation on the Mileage Competition, to make things a bit more interesting than
purely miles ridden. The idea is to provide some different places to go to as
well as visiting some old haunts. Points will be awarded for the number of
different places visited and for the notional mileage ridden to get to the
places.
Mileage points have been taken
from MS Autoroute from Burgess Hill one way and divided by 10. For each location
you will gain one point for going plus the bonus mileage points as per the list.
For example a visit to the Lobster Pot café will gain a total of four points
compared with the American Forces Memorial at Torcross Devon that will earn 28
points.
You will only be able to claim
points for a location once, no matter how many times you visit. To claim your
points you need to send a picture to David Dyke at davidrdyke@tiscali.co.uk
of the location with you and your bike in the foreground. Digital pictures
preferred so that we can publish some in newsletters throughout the summer.
Barry Pope hopes to lead some
runs on Sundays and will use this list as a basis for his destinations. Keep an
eye on the newsletter if you want to join Barry or speak to any committee member
for up to date plans.
Hopefully, the selection of
locations will mean that the competition could be won by doing a lot of short
trips or by doing only a few longer runs. You decide which combination you
fancy.
The competition will close at
the end of September with a prize awarded for the top score at the Annual Prize
Giving evening in November.
By the way, Carpe Diem
translates as “seize the moment”, in other words don’t just sit their get
out and do something!
At our Prize Giving evening we welcomed Chris Bottle and his partner Su from our sponsors, Devitt Insurance who had provided most of the prizes. For the record the winners were:
First: Geoff Linington 441 Points out of 441 Exhibitor’s pass to NEC Bike Show.
Plus £200 to a charity of his choice.
Second: David Dyke 364 points out of 441 Tickets to BSB Brands Hatch.
Plus £100 to a charity of his choice.
Third: John Plant 304 points out of 441 Boss Alarmed Disk lock.
Plus £50 to charity of his choice
