Carpe Diem 2008

After the success of this competition last year, we have decided to do something similar for this summer.

We are going to continue with the Carpe Diem competition again this year and following

the success of last year’s competition, we will be using the same scoring scheme. You will

find a list of locations with this newsletter-there are some old regulars and a selection

of new places both near and far. I am sure you will find something to interest all of you.

The list also indicates the point’s value of each place. Each location visited will earn five

points plus its mileage bonus points. In addition, some locations will also gain further

twenty points for actually going into the attraction. You will need to keep your ticket

stub, a receipt or something unique to claim these bonus points.

So, for example, a visit to Sammy Miller’s museum at New Milton could be worth five

points for going plus nine mileage points plus twenty points if you actually go into the museum,

producing a possible score of 34 points in total. To claim your points you will need

to take a picture of your bike at the location. Send you pictures to Barry Pope who has

agreed to look after the competition this year. Barry’s email address is

barry.pope@btinternet.com

This year’s themes are biker cafes, preserved railways, canals, lakes of the UK, floating

bridges and Constable Country plus a few odd ones. Hopefully all the locations are great

places to ride to and you should be able to string some together to make some interesting

round trips.

Barry Pope’s Sunday’s runs will use this list as a basis for some of his destinations. Keep

an eye on the newsletter and Paul’s weekly “what’s on” emails if you want to join Barry.

Other people may offer to lead ad hoc runs and information will published via e mail and

newsletter.

Hopefully, the selection of locations will mean that the competition could be won by doing

a lot of short trips or by doing only a few longer runs. You decide which combination you

fancy.

The committee have not finalised what prizes will be available, but hopefully something

similar to last year can be sorted out.

The competition will close at the end of October 2008 with a prize awarded for the top

score at the Annual Prize Giving evening in November.

By the way, Carpe Diem translates as “seize the moment”, in other words don’t just sit

there get out and do something!
