BH&DMCC Sunday Morning Ride-Outs

An introduction for those who may not yet have participated

Although the Club has regular Monday evening rides during the summer-time months, some of the Club members (and occasionally non-members) meet on a regular basis at the Football Club in Burgess Hill on a Sunday Morning if the weather is ‘reasonable’.  We aim to leave the club as soon as possible after 10.00am, heading for one of a number of destinations within the local area.  Typically the ride will last for an hour or so, covering a distance of 30 – 40 miles if it is not too wet or cold.  Frequently-used destinations are as follows (with approximate distances):

The Chalet Café, on the A281 south of Cowfold (Only 10 miles by the shortest route)

Carrot’s Café, Basin Road South, Shoreham harbour (About 20 miles)

Shoreham Airport Restaurant/Café, off the A27 at Shoreham (Also about 20 miles)

Sea Lane Café, Rustington, on the seafront near Littlehampton (About 30 miles)

Lobster Pot Café, Felpham, Bognor, Canning Road, on the seafront. (About 35 miles)

Southwater Country Park Café, off the A24 near Horsham.  (About 20 miles)

Hikers Café, Whiteways, Bury Hill, on the A29 north of Arundel.  (About 30 miles)

Newlands Corner Café, off the A25 south-east of Guildford. (About 35 miles)

Wessons Café, on B2203, off the A267, Horam (About 30 miles)

DonJon Rouge, at Wadhurst Railway Station. (not always open) (About 35 miles)

Coral Cabin Café, Riverside, Newhaven Harbour. (About 25 miles)

Roedean Café, off the A259 at Roedean (About 15 miles)

All venues offer hot drinks and food; most have indoors seating, but are quite popular and there is often ‘overspill’ seating outside (usually quite breezy on the coast!).  The ride out to the venue may often be via the ‘scenic’ route, but after a warming drink the route home will usually be the most direct to your own home.

As well as the morning rides shown above, we may sometimes have day-long rides out on a Sunday in the summer, or on Bank Holidays (as always, weather permitting!).  These will usually be publicised in the Club Newsletter, or via e-mail.  Some of the places visited last year were on the Carpe Diem list, but not all.  If you have any suggestions for day-trips out (or shorter Sunday morning runs), please let any Committee member know.
